The Women of Note entertained an enthusiastic audience at the Okeechobee branch of the PBC Library on Wednesday, January 17.  They heard the debut of our newest song, "I Heard it through the Grapevine" and enjoyed the stories about the men in our lives.  Pictured left to right are Lynn Baltimore and Rita Schroeder.

The Women of Note were thrilled to be a part of Sweet Adelines International’s Global Open House, with two Membership Nights in September! We had a fabulous response from local singers who had the opportunity to learn some tags, receive vocal education from Director Mitch Greenberg and Associate Director Elaine Haugan, and enjoy performances from the chorus and quartets. “With a Song in Your Heart” introduced women to the joy of group singing and the Women of Note had a terrific time sharing their own SAI stories and what brought them to the group.

Fall is in full swing (even if the weather in South Florida doesn’t agree) and the Women of Note are gearing up for our 5th annual Youth Workshop, coaching and holiday gigs! The Youth Workshop, hosted in collaboration with the Barbershop Harmony Society, has grown from 40 students in its first year to over 180 last year. We’re looking forward to welcoming even more students this October for a day of Barbershop education and singing and this year, we’re going to get the music educators on stage to share a tune as well!

Looking ahead to winter, the chorus has been chosen as the resident musical group to entertain patrons at Christmas at Whitehall at the Flagler Museum in Palm Beach. The chorus will sing holiday favorites as guests enjoy the holiday decorated halls of the museum. Christmas at Whitehall takes place for 6 nights in December at the historic house and the chorus is very much looking forward to getting into the holiday spirit at the museum.

The Women of Note are Beating the Heat!

After celebrating another successful regional competition, the Women of Note are back to work learning new repertoire, solidifying vocal techniques and welcoming some new faces! Despite spotty air conditioning in the chorus room during the summer, we are singing through the heat and having a great albeit sweaty time doing it!

Upcoming is our Fourth of July appearance at the Flagler Museum in Palm Beach where we’ll provide a patriotic performance followed by fireworks over the water. Also in July, the ladies will hit the bowling lanes once again for a fun social gathering!

In August, we’ll host our annual Four on the Floor competition where we invite members to form their own pick-up quartets, find a great piece of music and some costumes and perform for the chorus! It’s always great fun and the winning quartet will have the opportunity to entertain our guests at our September Membership Drive! The Women of Note have welcomed some new faces onto the Leadership Team as well as the Music Team and we’re all looking forward to a fantastic 2016-2017 season filled with performances, social events and another amazing showing at Regional Competition.

Three brave souls from Women of Note will participate in an unforgettable weekend of fun and connect with singers from across the globe on July 23-27, 2014 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, home city of Sweet Adelines International. The 2014 A Cappella Harmony Academy features a “That’s Entertainment!” theme and offers participants the opportunity to delve into every aspect of performing, from vocal skills to mic technique, and from music selection to entertaining our audiences. Participants will be coahed by a cappella Expert Lisa Forkish, an Oakland based vocalist, composer, arranger and music educator who served four years as music director for the University of Oregon’s acclaimed female a cappella group, Divisi, and guided the author of the best selling book “Pitch Perfect.” If you remember, Women of Note performed before the premier of that movie in Royal Palm a few years ago.

Lynn Baltimore, Shoshana Davidowitz and Mary Markovitz have decided to attend a special “Performance Boot Camp” prior to the main event because they want to explore script writing, staging, blocking, choreography, theming, costuming and emceeing. You know when anyone advertises “boot camp” it means a grueling workout. Arriving a day early to join that group, these three women of note will construct, rehearse and perform a complete performance package in this intensive, hands-on learning experience. This one-day boot camp will culminate with a Saturday night performance for the entire group.

The faculty for the rest of the weekend includes Jim Arns, Karen Breidert, Paula Davis, Peggy Gram, Renee Porzel, Judy Pozsgay, and Lynn, Shoshana and Mary look forward to reporting back to the chorus about the following classes they will attend:
